The Vault

"I have difficulty saying what constitutes home for me. I often feel my home is a mental home. In thinking, in medicine, in physiology, in science. Perhaps above all, in writing." Oliver Sacks

Writing has been quite therapeutic and entertaining

Not only was I able to learn about myself by writing, I was able to use all experiences.

1. While some aspects of every character are purely fictional for the purpose of developing narratives; every one of them is, by default, a natural extension of myself. And as I wrote about different characters and watch them grow in The Vault, I got to learn about myself a bit more and became more self-aware.

2. Looking back on my life, I often wondered, why certain things had to happen; they seemed to serve no other purpose than causing all too frequent mental agonies and reliving the regrettable moments. Why did I meet that person? Why did I do that? Writing, in part, put price tags on some of those experiences and allowed me to break the shackles.

 In The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck, Mark Manson wrote (paraphrasing here) if you want to gauge the likelihood of someone achieving his/her goal, look at what pain he/she is willing to bear in order to bring that ambition to fruition. For instance, if I want to see whether I’d be successful on a diet, it is more telling to see whether I am willing to go bed hungry instead of evaluating how bad I want those imaginary chiseled abs.

 In a parallax perspective, what price am I willing to pay to bring The Vault to life? If I had to suffer to gain certain experiences AND have a meaningful means to express or make use of those experiences, at least I can console myself knowing those experiences, too, had a reason and can serve a purpose.

In many ways, The Vault is the amalgam of all the scientific/philosophical/religious questions I have accrued over the years. Instead of calling myself an author, I would like to describe my role as an inquirer or better yet, an instigator. Hope you find my novel, The Vault, make you question: what makes humans human?
